HISTORY

Conceptualized in 2017 and formally established in early 2019, the Afro-Amerindian Research & Cultural Center is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization designed to create research, cultural and outreach initiatives for and about African American and Native American communities. It is the goal for the AARC Center to create unprecedented comprehensive studies on both these intertwining people groups throughout the Americas.

The AARC Center aims to bridge gaps and foster connections between cultures and generations through various programs, research exhibits and publications. This includes the organization and development of the inaugural Dividing Lines: An African American & Native American Symposium.

MISSION

The mission of the Afro-Amerindian Research & Cultural Center is to comprehensively research African American and Native American historical and contemporary cultural cross-sections, while also addressing these through various programs and outreach.

VISION

To create an academic and cultural space in which the diverse and overlapping experiences of African American and Native American people are acknowledged. It is our hope that through our work, these groups can be understood, deemed important, preserved and remembered in ways that they currently are not, thereby further empowering members of these communities.
